I've been wanting to try this but my doctors are reluctant to prescribe it. Just wondering for those of you who do use this... can you mix it and take it with other breathing meds at the same time in the same neb? Also, what do you know about other breathing medications...can you mix any of them, or do you have to have a separate neb for each one.
thanks for your help

I was curious about the hypertonic saline also, i didn't know whether our CF clinic was prescribing to their patients or not, at our last visit i asked and they just told me that they were using it in the adult patients.

Hayley, 11 yrs old, has been nebbing hypertonic saline for about a year. She does it 2X day w/ vest and pulmozyne 1X day w/ Vest. I think it's 3% or 5%. The hypertonic comes in premixed vials but when she first started we mixed the sodium chloride (used a syringe) w/ the saline. I believe its the same.... premixed vials are easier.

Thanks for bringing this up Anon. I've wonder about hypertonic saline too. I'm still trying to get on it myself. My doctor is also reluctant.

Even though I'm probably repeating Anon...sorry if I do...but I have questions I've been thinking about for a while, so I'm just going to list them :

What is your dosage amount? How many times a day? What meds do you take it with? Cannot take it with? Can mix with it? Side effects? Overall out come of taking it?

I've heard people say they cant take DNase with it, but others say you can. So I wondered about that and TOBI.

Thanks <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

My 10 year old has just been diagnosed with CF in October 2005. We've been in the hospital twice now and this last time we were put on the Hypertonic saline.

Angie, you say it comes in a premix vial. We are doing the mixing thing now as well. Of course I just ordered 3 months of supplies, but it would be nice to know for the future. We have 15 ml of saline mixed with 6 ml of sterile water and then we syringe out 5 ml of the mixed solution and put it in the neb. It takes a long time for her to neb - approx 20 min. Also, do Hayley use it with the vest? Right now, we do Albuterol, saline, vest, TOBI. Takes about 1 1/2 hours in the morning. Afternoons are easier with Albuterol and vest done at the same time, unless we do pt's by hand. Our doctor is still very strong on the hand pt. We only do the saline twice. AM and PM.
