I'm sorry to hear you are sick . About the sleeping thing though, I'm a BIG belly sleeper, not so doable with pregnancy though. I got SOOOO fed up one night, that I took a long body pillow I had (special pregnancy one I bought from babies R us), put pillows in a circle around the center where my stomach would go, wrapped the looooooong body pillow over them, put to pillows stretched lengthwise for my legs, and plopped my stomach into the "nest" I made. Gotta tell you, a hassle to "make it" but boy did I have a good nights sleep.

I also remember the achey shoulders, neck.... from extra weight/pressure and not being use to sleeping like that. so, some days, I'd start out on my back, grab a pillow to hug, and have Mark slightly "jimmy" a pillow under my back, so I'd be just slightly tilted, but not enough to put pressure on my shoulders, although just enough to get the pressure straight off my back.

I also found taking naps in the bath/shower combo we have to be great. The bigger I got, the harder it was, but initially I'd lay a towel down in the bottom of the tub for comfort and then lay in the tub while the shower ran on me, great for clearing up the sinuses. I'd let the tub fill and then fall asleep in in with my head on a tub pillow.

Would you consider sleeping pills? I took some in the last few weeks of my pregnancy, honestly they were a lifesaver for my sanity!! I was much more calm, relaxed and better able to cope. Personally, I think the benefits outweighed the potential complications.

no no no oregano oil - this is contraindicated for pregnancy!!!

Herbs which can stimulate or irritate the uterus: eucalyptus, barberry, blood root, broom, goldenseal, coffee, mandrake, tea, nutmeg, osha, yerba mansa, and the mint family members basil*, catnip, lemon balm, marjoram*, oregano, peppermint, pennyroyal, rosemary*, true sage*, and thyme*.

I cooked with oregano plenty, but the oil is more concentrated and you usually use a lot more than you would in cooking.

Just a note on rinsing the sinuses...it is apparantly better to rinse with your own mix of salt and water instead of the packaged "sinus rinses" .. The water shoudl be boiled first then let sit until room temperature and mix in the tablespoon of salt. The reason being, if not boiled, you are just adding bacteria into the nasal passage. This is according to my ENT doctor. Hope you are feeling better!

You can get a prescription for sterile saline for irrigation only from your doctor. I purchase mine at Walgreens. They come in 250ml bottles. My insurance covers the cost. I also use syringes without the needle and throw one away a day as well.

As long as I irrigate three times a day, I stay clear. If I skip, ouch

I mentioned this before, but I'd also be concerned with too much vitamin C. I read somewhere some people have used excessively high doses to end a pregnancy.

HI all,

Thanks for your replies. I appreciate all the encouragement. I feel a little better today, but I know how it goes with me-I get a day where I feel better and the next day I am back to square one so i'm taking it really easy.

As for excessive high doses of Vit C or anything for that matter-I don't take really high doses of anything. Oregano in oil is contraindicated for pregnancy-but my OB did once tell me that a very low dose pill is ok. They test these supplements at extra ridiculously high levels. A low dose for immune system help won't harm in anyway. But thats my personal decision. I found one company that does a low dose oregano-not the oil, but a pill form that isn't as potent as oreg oil. I'd only take that if I was really getting sick.

As for dangerous vitamin levels-the amount you'd have to take to induce an abortion or go into shock is incredibly high-like an entire bottle in one hour. I take 3-4 caps a day. Fyi for anyone who is wondering, this is all ok'd by my doc, but of course check with your own and go from there. Part of my philosophy is if I can take a natural supplement or vitamin to get better (provided it is safe of course) and that keeps me from needing a medication-that the best thing for the baby. Just like the doc's theory that taking an antibiotic during pregnancy if needed can prevent the baby from getting the bacteria from the infection. Its all a risk/benefit ratio.

I also get alot of my vitamins from juicing fruit and veggies. I really do believe that juicing has prevented me from needing IVs many times in the past. So, anyway, I hope I keep feeling better and thanks again to ALL!!
