I ask again - am I a fool?

Does her CF center not have someone on call over the weekend? One of our CF drs is on call 24/7, including weekends and holidays and if Emily is sick they will discuss what is going on over the phone in detail, and prescribe (call it in to our pharmacy) if they feel her symptoms warrant it. They are the ones with access to her culture results and can rx the appropriate abx and are most likely to prescribe an appropriate course (many peds will only give a week or whatever, nowhere near what our kids need to kick an exacerbation.)

<br />I'm sorry you had to deal with a walk-in center that was not well-informed about CF. Even our ped is reluctant to deal with any of Emily's issues that are connected in even the loosest of ways to her CF, and I would MUCH prefer having her CF team manage her illnesses. I cannot even imagine what kind of care she'd get from a walk-in center who'd never seen her before. In a desperate situation w/ no other option, I'd (in our situation) take her to the ER at her children's hospital where they could access her records before taking her to an urgent care.

we are still relatively new to this and she has only has about a handful of colds, but I try to treat it for a day with baby rub, saline, and increased vest/pulmozyme treatments. If there is no improvement by the second day or if it gets worse, I'll leave a message for the doctor. I do stress that I prefer not to put her on antibiotics for every little sniffle, so they know how I feel, but this way they at least know about it and then they give me a time frame of when to look for improvement and when to call them back if there isn't any. I hope that helps. I wish there was a clear cut answer for this, it would make things so much easier sometimes.

Also, we have our doctor's pager number if we should ever need them on the weekend. You should see if you can get something like that from your CF center. I can't believe the doctor gave you a hard time about giving her antibiotics. The first time we had to go to the clinic when she was sick, it was just an ear infection, but the minute we told them she had CF they prescribed an antibiotic right away...it was the wrong one and not nearly for as long as she needed it...but it was no argument. The second time I knew what to ask for and they gave it to me no problem. I'm glad you guys stood your ground and he finally prescribed something.
