It could be that your left lung is severely damaged and that sleeping on your better right lung comprimises breathing with that lung because you are laying on it and it's more difficult to expand that lung.

I don't know about the hemoptysis...

What exactly happens when you lay on your right side? Is it painful or do you have trouble breathing? Im not sure if sleeping on a damaged lung induces hemoptysis, but i seem to have problems with laying on my left side and hemoptysis. Seems my left lung is my bleeder so i try to lay on my right side more. I also do not lay flat to sleep ( induces hemoptysis for me) , i now have a reclining couch and i sleep on that everynight. Maybe you could try sleeping in a more upright position. Not completely upright, but maybe propped up on a stack of pillows so you arent laying flat. Its worht a shot to see if it helps you sleep and not put too much pressure on the right side.

I was just thinking that it might trigger hemoptysis when laying on the lung that is more prone to it because that lung has to work harder to expand when you are laying on it?
Could that be it? That there is more strain on the lung? And that that can cause bleeding?

I really don't know, was fortunate to never really have a bleed, at least no big big ones at all. Only about 10 ml's a few times I think...
