I don't know what to do/think

I've been on iv antibiotics with my picc line about 3 times in the past 4 months or so and the last one was about 3 weeks ago. But I cannot stop coughing lately and sometimes I throw up because I cough so hard and so much. Usually I would schedule an appointment and probably go on the picc line but I really don't want to go on the picc line every few weeks...thats just rediculous. And my lung functions where about 50% when my picc line was finished last time. I don't want to sound like a pessimist or anything but am I near the end or something? I don't mind if I am, I just want to know. I'm really sick of being sick.

Hi,

I don't have any answers for you, but want you to know I feel the same way. I have been on iv's very frequently, I think maybe the same as you and I have this horrible cough and also cough so hard that I sometimes throw up. My cough is so bad that I get short of breath from it. It leaves me completed exhausted and weak. I sometimes see white flashes of light too.

It is worse if I lie down. It keeps me up for hours. I will finally fall asleep only to be woken up by more coughing.

My doctor is thinking of putting me on more iv's (2 different antibiotics that I haven't used in a while). I really hate to go the iv route again though. He is also testing my sputum for fungus and mycobacteria and testing my blood for fungal infection. I had a lung ct-scan done a week ago which showed changes in the lower left lobe, the report stated "probable atypical infection," whatever that means. I may end up needing a bronchosocpy. I understand what you are going through.

I have been getting scared thinking that my disease has progressed and it's always going to be like this from now on.

Let me know if you find anything that helps you or if you figure out what is going on. You are definitely not alone.

Take care,
Michelle

Hi, my PFT is the same as yours---around 47%. I throw up too and have trouble sleeping. The IV's stopped doing their magic a long time for me. You are not near the end...nor am I. I have changed some things up and have felt a lot better. I am on Symbicort which opens my airways up. Also, hypertonic saline gets out tons of mucus. I just started the fizzy NAC and I do feel better. I take tons of supplements too. I drink KM everyday and I havent been sick in 6 months (which is incredible). Have you talked to your doc about switching things up?
