I will give you a little history and hopefully those of you who have been there can recommend some suggestions about which direction to go next!

I have been charting for about 8 months and my cycles look very normal (we have actually not used any prevention methods for 3 years). However, my CM has never been the ideal 'water/strechy' and the last couple months I have been using OPK's and not seen a positive. I'm assuming unless I have something else going on, I have actually ovulated in the last 3 years so I'm not as worried about that being an issue.

My doctor scheduled an HSG for me (at my request) and a sperm test for my hubby.

Assuming everything is okay, I would like to try a medicated IUI. What do you all think? Do you have another suggestions? How much say have the doctors given you in this process?

I have not been through the IF process but I wanted to say that you should have as much say in the process as you want. You are paying the doctors to provide a service. Medicated IUI, nonmedicated IUI, IVF, etc - you and your doctor should decide together what you want to do.

I have a question (just curious) - what time of day have you been testing for the OPK? That is very interesting that you aren't getting a + yet your charts show you have been ovulating. You must have a very small LH surge. I believe I have a small window as well - I often ovulate the day of the +OPK. Also, have you tried pre-seed? I don't have good cervical fluid either and I believe pre-seed was my answer. But there is no way to know for sure.

Good luck with the process!!!

Hi Kortney,

It's good to see you back on here! Congrats on the appointment. I remember my first appointment with my RE. I was going to stroll in there with my "CF" written all over my forehead, get my IUI scheduled and be pregnant in no time. But that's not the way it worked out.

I brought my charts into the RE and explained my CF. I gave the RE my hunches about thick CM and I would like to try IUI. Lucky for me, my consultation with the RE included a pelvic ultrasound. That is where my problems began. I found out I had endometriosis. (severe stage IV) We watched my endometriomas (blood filled cysts) on the ultrasound for a couple months to be sure they weren't dissolving and then scheduled laproscopic surgery. After healing for one month we tried medicated IUI. We did that three (failed) times, and my endo was back. We tried IVF and lucky for us it worked.

My point being, you can have all the charts in the world, all the knowledge about CF, but let your RE do a little leading. Come with your ideas, but be open to the experts. They get paid the big bucks for a reason. Good luck Kortney. I look forward to following your posts about your progress on these message boards.

Hey Caroline,
I have been using the OPT typically between 12 noon and 5pm. I've also tried first thing in the morning (even though that isn't recommended). I have seen a faint line, but the directions say that doesn't count.

The last few months we have also been using Pre-seed with no avail!

Tara, thanks for bringing me back to reality... let me explain where I'm coming from.
I think the reason why I want to have as much of this process planed out (assuming there aren't any other issues, like you mentioned) is because I feel as though I have been disappointed with my OB and her decisions already and I am VERY early in this process. My husband says I always think I know more than my doctors, which I must sadly admit in a way I suppose he is correct. But in my defense I've seen a team of Doc's every three months for the last 25 years and I have had experiences with them being wrong or maybe not having the 'best' prescription for what ales me. I definitely don't hold that against them, they are a large part of why I am even healthy enough to be hear discussing having a baby. But I try to be informed so I take part in helping determine what might be best for me.

All that to say, my OB asked me at my first apt what I would like to try next. I suggested an HSG test for the diagnostics and the potential benefit of it flushing any blockages that may be inhibiting pregnancy. My OB agreed. Two days later I called to find out when she was going to schedule the test and her nurse said my OB didn't know what an HSG test was, she was going to have to research and get back to me. A week later I received a voice message saying my OB "didn't find any evidence that an HSG test would help CF patience with fertility issues". Needless to say I was a bit frustrated by that message! About a week after that my OB called again and said she spoke with another doctor and they feel the first step in the process is an HSG! After she receives the results, she will then refer me to a Fertility Specialist.

You might be thinking that I need to find a new OB, but my CF team works closely with her and her office. I am going to assume this is an isolated incidence because I have great respect for my CF doc and his recommendations on someone who will care for me in this area so I'm sticking it out with her (my OB)...but in the mean time I am researching as much as possible so I am very informed about this process and my options!

I apologize for the length and intensity of this post. I have been very close to posting my frustrations many times about this particular situation but I decided against it may times because I didn't want to bring negativity here, the 'Pregnancy' forum has been a place of encouragement and hope for me. I love the comradery that is offered here and I want to be a part of that!
