Hi Kortney,

What I didn't mention in my post was everything you're going through now. I ttc'd naturally at home for 12 months before asking my OB for help. I "heard" on the internets that is the length of time you should "try" on your own before seeking help. (see, we're more alike than you think! I too sometimes feel I know more than my doctors.) The very first test my OB ordered was the HSG. When that came back all clear, I was referred to the fertility clinic. So it is my understanding that you do need to have that test under your belt before seeing the fertility doc, or maybe the RE would order one anyway. I don't know. Basically you are ruling out blocked tubes with the test. And it's not as painful as everyone describes. I was scared out of my mind when I went in to have it done. I took 800 mg of motrin before the procedure and I was fine.

Good luck to you. I mean that in the most sincere way. I know what it's like when that biological clock sounds off. I ttc'd 26 months before i got pregnant. It's long hard frustrating road, but so worth it in the end, no matter how the baby gets here.

im not trying to steel this post but i jsut went and did an hsg yesterday.. my dr thought it would be a good idea just because we havent gotten preggo and we've been together for 5 years! so they were looking into seeing if i was blocked, come to find out i had a small blockage in my right side but they flushed that sucker right out!! so i think that an hsg is a good thing to at least see where you stand on the one... cfers have allot of mucus you never know if your clear or not!!! i would try and get it done for sure!!!
