Hi everyone, this is a response/update on a message I posted back on Friday Jan 28th about me planning to run the London Marathon on April 17th.
My name is Rob Lake and I have Cystic Fibrosis, but was determined in spite of the obvious difficulties to run the marathon, which I did yesterday!! After training for 6 months, I ran a fairly good time: Just under 4 hours 15 mins!! The day was fantastic, although quite warm and slightly overcrowded... but the support I got all 26.2 miles of the race was incredible. There were 150 of us (out of 38,000 runners) running for the CF Trust in the UK, and I got a chance to meet some of them along the way and afterwards at the post-marathon party. A cold drink and a massage went down very well!!!
After my initial message in January I received an emormous amount of encouragement and just wanted to say thank you to everyone who was kind enough to give me (and the CF Trust) their support, both personal and financial. For the next two months I will still be raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, and if anyone would like to make a donation, you can do so: www.justgiving.com/robertlake
Lots of love to everyone, and thank you again.

Rob

That is incredible. Congratulations to you!! You are a great role model and I hope that my son will be that active and determined. Do you mind me asking how old you are?
Best wishes!

Hey, thanks everyone! Yeah, I am 24 years old and live in London. Still celebrating, of course and looking forward to being able to play sports again (give it a week or two!). Still limping and in need of a good massage! As I didnt beat 4 hours I am planning on running the London Marathon again next year (if I get in)... and yes I am crazy! Call it stubborness!
About a dozen of my friends have said they want to now join me next year which would be totally awesome. We'll have to see. Gotta keep fit!

Rob,
What can I say but WOW. You are awesome and truely inspiring. My4 year old son w/CF runs all the time, he never walks, he skipped the whole crawling thing as a baby went straight to running. I sit here and look at him and wonder how long he will be able to do that, but you have lifted me up and given my hope back that someday he will run his first marathon. God Bless you Rob

Hi Rob,

What a great accomplishment. Congratulations. How did you train for the marathon? I am interested in training for something similar (but obviously work up to it) but I'm wondering what your daily excercise routine was for excercise/strenght build up. Did you have to do anything different or work twice as hard w/ having CF? How much out of everyday do you suggest dedicating to excercise?

thanks for the tips and keep running!
