Well lets start by saying that caleb was diagnosed at 7 months of age. We have battled with getting him to take *normal* enzymes for 4 and a half yrs now! He would gag/choke/puke/cry and button his lips everytime we tried to give them to him.... So at around 3 they finally gave in and let us try the viokase by mouth. (I fought so hard to get his docs to put him on viokase as it was better than nothing).. Well thursday night we went to open house at the school (hes going into kindergarden) and after i stopped at the store for milk and he wanted gum so i gave in and bought him a pack for being so good at the school. We got home and he says momma can i have another one? Im like WHAT!! I just gave you one.. he says i ate it i want more. (ok this gum was that hubba bubba kind and the pieces are HUGE) so with my quick thinking i grabbed a creon 10 out of the cupboard and he starts screaming I dont want my pill!! Im like hold on caleb i just want to show you something.. see this piece of gum, this enzyme is less than half the size of the gum you just swallowed. did it hurt to swallow the gum... he says no... I said well there is no reason you cant swallow this pill if you can swallow the gum... So he says "fine momma give me my pill" So i handed it to him and i gave him a pediasure. He put the pill in his mouth and guess what..............HE SWALLOWED THE PILL!!!!! WOOO HOOO I have never been so happy in my life!!! Im still in aw after all this time that it only took a 65 cent pack of gum.... I have tried everything under the sun in the past 4 and a half yrs!! So every meal and snack since thursday he has faithfully taken his enzymes.. everytime he swallows one he says loooooooook mom--- am I the man or what <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> and i just sit there and say buddy you have NO IDEA!! you are the man!!!
So for anyone who is out of options go for the gum!! hehe
