I know I'm weird,

I was reading the post about skipping a couple of treatments and I became more aware that I'm weird. I routinely do nebs at work along with Acapella. Granted, I do tend to close my door completely, but regularly someone comes knocking and comes in and I don't think a thing about it. Obviously, it's not like I'm doing this with clients or anything, but I feel perfectly comfortable doing about any treatment in my office. We have people who pump in their offices (they tend to make it known and staff doesn't come in while their door is closed), but I figure it's the same basic game. I'm a better employee if I do treatments, I'm capable of doing treatments and work at the same time (the computer doesn't judge), and it feels like it's not taking a huge part of my life because I'm doing stuff...

I think it's the same way with friends. If they know about and are comfortable with my treatments, they are less limiting.

I don't want to upset anyone. I can completely understand why you might not be comfortable with others watching treatments or knowing that you had CF or anything like that. That makes perfect sense to me, and I am in no way saying that you should be like me. I'm just wondering if anybody else is this way?

Ry was the same way, he did his treatments in front of his friends, had them beat him, did IVs at work, and never cared. He was not shy about having CF at all, it was just something he had to deal with, nothing to be ashamed of.

So no, you aren't alone.

I do IVs at school, if I just so happen to need them while I'm in classes.

I would have no problem with doing them at work but I am afraid of getting fired if they find out. You are very lucky to have such an understanding office.

I've gone to school with PICCs, though I always had them covered for their "safety". But, if it were hot and I wanted to take off the sweater or whatever, I would do it.

I also do treatments in front of my family/friends all the time. I even have started doing them more around my husband's friends when they are staying with us. I just don't care anymore. There was a time, when newly married and in our first home that I did do my treatments in my bedroom with the door shut. I think this was more cause I didn't want my treatment stuff laying out (a bit of a clash with my decor), and not so much cause I didn't want people seeing me.

I actually like to do it in front of people sometimes so they can see and appreciate what I go through to keep myself healthy and also so it will maybe bring up CF in conversation so I can further educate people. I know recently when my hubby had a friend here, me doing my treatment brought up a discussion on lung transplants and organ donation. So, what better way to open the door to communication about social issues as well?

Good for you that you do it at work and are not ashamed or afraid to do so. I personally think its empowering to not give a crap what people think.

You are also lucky to have an office. Everywhere I've worked is open environment so if I fired up my air compressor it would effect everyone's work experience. I think the number of companies in America with offices is getting fewer and fewer especially in my field, design consulting.

Good point. I also never would have been able to do my treatments at work since I always worked directly in the public (retail, waitress, etc.). I suppose some workplaces offer an office, or I've heard of management that allows people use of their private office to do things such as shots, pumping, and probably CF treatments. But, I suppose this is rare.

I`ve recently had to change jobs, as my employer is a emotionless,
insensitive, non-understanding prick, so yep, I think it`s the
right way for you to go, if you can get away with it, but you`d
want to have an employer with more than 2 frickin` brain cells.
Yeah I used to be like that, very embarressed to tell anyone I had
C.F., `cos you know 1 of 2 things happen. Either you get the whole
sympathy smorgesbord thing, or you get the "what`s that"
syndrome, and you spend the next 5 minutes telling the person that
it is a serious condition, but not that serious in your case. (we
all do that on occasion, damn you pride, damn you to hell!!!).
Nowadays, I just think, "***** `em, this is me, this is what
I`ve got, if you can`t handle it, get the ***** out of here".
Sorry for the language, but it does serve a purpose.
While I didn't ever do treatments while at work, I say why not??
The smokers get to stand around outside, doing absolutely nothing, so I think if you're being productive (or not) it shouldn't matter since they get breaks for personal reasons.
I've often wondered what employers would do if non-smokers went out with the smokers & just stood around outside for the same amount of time doing nothing? Of course the non-smokers would want to be up-wind from the smokers!

I've whipped out a nebulizer and then an acapella in an airport before or between flights more times than I can count. I figure if it makes me feel better, why worry about anyone else?
