I KNOW IT HAS BEEN AWHILE

I would say it was faulty too and would take it back. Those guys would know if their sugars were really that low. I've had it that low before & been conscious but also was sweaty, shaky and half disoriented.

I do have times when I feel like I could pass out. Most of the time it happens when I'm walking & coughing at the same time. I feel like I have to lean against a door frame or something for balance until "my marbles settle", then I can go on--this just lasts maybe 2-3 seconds.

As was mentioned, could be low blood pressure too.

I've had people with a blood sugar of 11 still talking to me so if they were in the 40's they might not know it. It does sound like something is wrong with the machine. Did you do the control checks on it and the high and low readings were correct?

Did you check it with the test solution? Those numbers do sound really low- I start seeing funny blotches and feel like I might pass out at 40. With 3 people who show in the 40's, I'd be thinking that something is wrong with the meter too.

Have you checked that the strip numbers match the number entered into the machine? Also the little dye test that you do to calibrate it?

I know you said you calibrated the machine but sometimes if you don't check that the strip number is entered into the machine correctly.

If you have done that then yes I would take the machine back because 70 is a low blood sugar let alone 40 that is not a normal reading.

As for Courtney my first thought was CFRD as much of a bummer as that would be.
