I might lose my job!

My teaching position requires that we have a physical every 3 years. My CF doc has always filled out my physical and everything has been fine. He just faxes it to the district office and a copy to me. Well, this year they added a question: "Is the employee free from communicable disease?" My doc checked yes, but then qualified that with "but she has chronic pulmonary infections that could affect others." I'm extremely worried that I'll now lose my teaching job/career. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif" border="0">

Why would he put that????!!!! We are encouraged so heavily (at least my clinic does) to live a "normal" life. That is a possible way to end you living your "normal" life...and over what? A few lung infections? I thought that most of the bacterias we culture anyways can only be passed between CF'ers. Have you asked him to maybe fax over additional info? It sounds like that statement needs clarified to the school district. I am sorry you have to go through this.

I would demand either 1) the Dr fix his statement or 2) get a second physical.

There was no excuse to write that. The purpose of that question it to protect kids from things like TB or HIV.

Your CF is not a risk to students, and was not relevant. If the school causes any trouble I would get your union rep involved (I can't believe I just said that as I don't normally like unions).

Well if you just have PA, then you're technically not contagious to anyone unless they have HIV or Cancer or are otherwise immunocompromised.

If you have MRSA, then that's a different story.

I am very curious which chronic pulmonary infection he is referring to.
