Hi Tinamarie4685

I have to ask and it's probably a stupid question because if one is pregnant you have to take safety percausion of the child. Anyway here is my question.
"While you where on IV's for three weeks did you have to go into hospital". Good luck with everthing and I hope all is going well for you!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

I can't speak for Tina but when I did 2 weeks of IVs while pregnant with my son, I did them all at home. I did spend 1 terrible night at the local community hospital (they have no knowledge of CF but the Children's hospital wouldn't admit me since I was pregnant.). This time around if I do IVs again they will all be done at home - no hospital stays at all. My CF clinic is now over 3 hours away and NO WAY am I going to be hospitalized there (too far away from my son!) - and no way am I going to be hospitalized at the local hospitals again. If I were to get gravely ill and require a hospital I don't know what I'll do...I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

I'm the same as you Caroline. My CF center is 1.5 hrs away and I wouldn't be able to be away from my family either. I have looked into the local CF center/hospital, but they're just not up to date like the one I currently go to. So I would pretty much only do IVs at home. I think my CF center prefers you do them at home anyways, only being admitted for the first day or two.

Too bad there weren't more good CF centers closer to us! It stinks that people have to travel so far for good care.

Hey,

I did my 3 weeks of IV's at home... I have always done them at home, it is where I am most comfortable doing them.. I honestly feel that there is too much that can be picked up at hospitals - germs, bacteria, etc. My father is a paramedic and is always in hospitals, and tells me the things he sees (nurses/doctors literally not washing their hands from patient to patient, not properly steralizing things; just careless mistakes that can REALLY hurt us)... and I wouldnt want to risk getting even more sick by being in the hospital! If I absolutely HAD to, if I was extremely EXTREMELY ill and had NO help at home, I would obviously stay in the hospital.... but luckily it has never come to that!
