Hi Leah,

I just finished a 3 week course of IV's 3 days ago... I cultured the same bugs as you but also had the MRSA.. and I was on Aztreonam & Zosyn IV meds, both of which are category B while pregnant. I just recently had a couple of ultrasounds, have been seeing my high risk obgyn and everything is fine

I was also on these meds when my fiance and I conceived... hehe.. but I was still super nervous about going on IV while pregnant! I am SO glad I did though, my symptoms were just as you described and I wanted to nip whatever was brewing in the butt - I just reached 28 weeks pregnant today and I feel like that was the perfect "tune up", especially since things will start getting more difficult during the 3rd trimester! I am not even short of breath anymore.. *knocks on wood*

Good luck - keep us posted!!!

I culture pseudo and staph; although, I don't know how many different strains or anything.

Not sure about what they're sensitive too either. They're probably still sensitive to the oral antibiotics that I'm allergic to since I've only taken those once or twice.

</end quote>

Leah

I hate to say this but just because you have only take some abxs a few times (or never at all) doesn't mean that your bugs won't be resistant to them. According to my cultures I'm resistant to everything except 2 antibiotics. I haven't even been on most of the ones I'm resistant to! Ever. I've only been on probably 4 or 5 different antibiotic in my whole life. Yet I'm resistant to practically the whole panel. Of course I don't think my bugs have been synergy tested since I haven't been sick in a long time so maybe a cocktail will work for me if necessary.

Just putting it out there. Hope you're sensitive to everything

You do have a point. But you know what's sort of funny...I've been showing resistance to Tobi/tobramycin for 10 years now and I still use it every month because it makes me feel so much better. Go figure.

As an update: I started the Colisitin and I'm already feeling better. I'm not sure why it hadn't worked in the past and now it's working for me.

Wednesday is my big u/s. I am getting very excited!

Tina - Thanks for letting me know there are safe IV drugs out there; that makes me feel so much better. I'm sure my MD's would be able to figure out a safe combo. I just worry too much

No problem!! Glad the Colistin is working for you - I was on that too right before I decided 'yes' to the IV's. It's always 1 month on, 1 month off with the Colistin but I knew I needed something more. I was soooooooo SO SO SO worried about going on IV's while pregnant but since I was 25 weeks pregnant I was also much more comfortable.

Hope you continue to feel better and better!!
