I need the drugs, but do I have to stay?!

Jeana,
<br />We live close to 4 hours away from our CF center, so I understand how you feel about the inconvenience of being away from family. We always had to stay several days, then they let us go home and I took care of Brady. During one of our stays for IV antibiotic I asked why we had to stay at all--since I am very familiar with taking care of Brady's PICC. The nurse told me that they had to draw blood every so often when they first start this certain med to make sure they have the levels correct. I don't know if this pertains to your situation at all, it is just what I was told and at the time it made sense. :)

Have you considered getting a port? I access/de-access my own, so when I do IV's there is nothing preventing me from doing them all at home. With that said, since my daughter was about 1, I have chosen to do my first week in the hospital. I'm a stay at home mom, and I just can't seem to rest as much as I need to while at home. Even when my mom is here helping, I still do a LOT more than I do at the hospital.

But if you really think that it won't make a difference in how your body heals, then I would consider getting a port.
