I think this is so neat

I know some do not want to talk about death around here but I really wanted to share this website.

I was never really sure what I wanted done with my body after I die. Cremation, burial.....just was not sure, UNTIL.........

I found the website called LifeGems.

They take your ashes (they can also do it with your hair) and turn them into BEAUTIFUL diamonds which can be made into earrings, rings, necklaces, etc.

The website is

www.lifegems.com

It is quite expensive, but I now know when I pass away I want 4 rings to be made. One for each of my children, and one for my husband.

I thought this was such a GREAT idea. What do you guys think?

You know...I'm not sure if I find this fascinating, or very morbid. I like the idea of having your ashes put into jewelry (very cool and different), and a family member will always have a piece of you around with them, but at the same time do you want to be wearing someone's ashes all the time? I'm kind of on the fence about this one. I guess a small part of me that's not sure sort of see's it as a step above carrying someone's urn around all the time.

But like I said - cool, but at the same time....I wonder...

Edited to add: I'm still going to check the site out though. LOL.

I saw something else cool once. Someone was cremated and a friend/spouse/whatever had a tiny bit of their ashes put into tattoo ink. That's the one Mike wants to do. He already has the tattoo he's getting when I die picked out. So he's going to take a smidgen of ashes and get that one.

But I think it's neat. The jewelry, the tattoo. Whatever, it's neat.

I don't know why but I find this idea really funny.  Not like
bad or anything just kind of funny.  Like "oh wow i love
your ring".. "oh thanks uh...my Mom gave it to me"
or "oh thanks, it's my daughter" can you imagine the look
on the poor persons face when they hear that...what do they say
next? That just makes me giggle.  I guess it's just a bit
weird.

I've heard about that. You'll have to find an artist that's willing to do that, because not too many of them will. Guess it has to do with everything being sterile and whatnot. Kind of a cool idea though non the less.

I think it is a cool idea but how do we know it is for real? I hope all these people who give their ashes first donate their organs to people who need a second chance.

Risa,

I would DEFENITELY give all my useable organs first!

My hubby is going one step further and giving his body to science after he passes (after he donates his organs). This means we would not have ashes, body or anything. I would like to have his hair to make a diamond out of if he goes before me.

well, i think it's ****** up. i have a hard enough time wearing dead people's jewelry, let alone wearing jewelry made of dead people.

is this really for real? how much of the person is even in them??

Liz, yeah I know. Most places won't, but if you can find a place that will, I think the idea is neat.

Oh Debbie, I know it. lol I don't mean to distract here, but shortly into our relationship (maybe 6 months?), at one point he says: Okay, so I thought of something, and I'm afraid you'll think it's creepy and morbid. I told him to tell me. So he's like "Well I know what tatttoo I'm getting when you die." Of course, being me, I was like THAT'S SO CUTE! Morbid shmorbid, I don't care, it was cute. lol. But anyways, he wants to get my name "Emily May" in a script-y font done on his chest, right over his heart. Awwww what a doofy morbid marshmallow. My favorite kind.

Kay I'm done now. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

Emily,

I think the tattoo is a great idea!

Laura,

There is not a requirement that you wear the jewrely at all times.

I have a very old glass rolling pin of my grandmothers. I NEVER use it, but I take it out every couple of years to clean it, and sit and think of all of the good memories I had with her.

If my children decide to take their rings and put them in a box and tuck it away in the back of the closet....GREAT. It is their choice what they want to do with it.

As far as the question of is it real.....take a look at the website. It will answer all of your questions.

As for if its real? Who knows. Sure the website can say its real, but come on - we've all heard of the stories of crematoriums mixing up peoples ashes, etc. I'm not saying its a scam, but things can happen.

Its a unique concept, but I dont know if any of my loved ones or myself for that matter could/would wear ME! LOL! How about getting the jewelry made & sell it somehow to benefit CF! I do plan on donating whatever is usable before cremation BTW!

Liz, I'm with you on this one! This just sounds weird or something to me.

Edited to say: I really do know how to use quotes!!!

That sounds really weird. That's all I initially thought. Kind of intriguing. Maybe one day I can be a famous diamond on the crown of the King of America...whoops....I slipped.

Ick.... It creeps me out to think that I would wear one of my loved ones on my body. Not for me at all. But it is interesting to know what my options are.
