I was at my healthiest before I became pregnant and immediately after giving birth. I carried my twins until 33 weeks, was on bed rest for 10 weeks, developed gestational diabetes, and required IV abx for the last week of my pregnancy and 1 additional week after giving birth. The IV abx options are limited, but possible if needed without harming your baby. My lung function was the best in had been in a over 10yrs after 2wks IV abx-I had only been on IV therapy 1 other time in my life.
However, since giving birth my health has become more of an issue. While being a mother is the most rewarding experience, it is exhausting and it becomes very difficult to make the time to take care of yourself. CF definately adds another challenge to balancing life as a mother. But it is definately worth it. It helps to have an involved husband and good support network.
