I was hit with a big question out of nowhere...

My little girl was in the back seat of the car yesterday on a trip to Walmart and was reading Mallory's 65 Roses to her little brother who is three years old and out of nowhere, I was hit with the age old question - "Why was I born with Cystic Fibrosis?" I was totally caught off guard, and always hope when the question came up, I would no what to say, but I stumbled and thought for a second and then said - God just knew you were going to be a special kid that would be strong and brave enough to fight CF. I told her some kids are born with diabetes (like a girl in her class), and some kids face cancer (like a boy in her class). Everyone has things they have to face and deal with in life, and this just happens to be ours. Then she told me that at the end of the book it says that they're close to finding a cure and she asked me that when they find a cure does this mean she doesn't have to do her TOBI or any medicines anymore? I told her - yes, and then she got all excited.

I PRAY EVERDAY THAT THIS CURE COMES SOON!

Just thought I'd share, and I hope I answered her question ok. I know there will be more to come, but I got through my first one ok. I tried explaining a little about the genes and everything - but she just glazed over like I was talking greek or something<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Your reply is almost exactly what my replies have been to my girls over the years. I am amazed at how well that type of answer works for them at this age. We have also had the 'cure' questions/discussions. Kids really do understand so much at such a young age.

Hugs to you. I know how tough it is when they come up with questions regarding their CF. Not too long ago Kayla wanted me to tell her about how we found out she, and then her sister, had CF. She was amazed by the story and I have heard her repeat it a few times...

More HUGS to you! Sounds like you did an excellent job! and judging by her reaction, it was an answer that satisfied her needs for that moment in time.

Good Job.
