Ibuprofen

I took ibuprofen for about 5 or 6 years. I got off it last November. Controlling excess acidity has helped me get off multiple anti-inflammatory drugs.

I have recently tried it @ 1000mg 2 times a day for about 4 months. It helped tremendously with inflamation and back/"lung" pain and discomfort. Be careful though, as caitlin said... I noticed I became addicted to the false sense of comfort it gave me, and when i missed a dose it felt like it hurt even more than before, also got severe headaches. Apparantly, it is also not good for some CFers livers if taken for too long at high doses.

If you decide to try it, keep in mind alot of us have tried it. I think its great, but on top of all of the risks and adding another set of pills to the coctail we already swallow daily, is it really worth it just to put another "band-aid" on? I stopped it.

I hope it helps you if you decide to try it. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Ibprofen shouldn't do much to the liver, its tylenol that impacts the liver. However, if you are having problems with vitamin K, then its probably not a good option for you. Its also probably not a good option if you are experiencing other bleeding issues related to poor liver function and not just vitamin K synthesis. Ibprofen decreases the body's ability to form blood clots and shouldn't be used in anyone already experiencing problems in that area. Its on the absolutely NO list for our Hemophiliac son. And, because of his bleeding issues that M is facing (struggling to synthesize vitamin K and other liver issues causing bleeding issues in him), he's not a good candidate for trying ibprofen therapy for his CF treatment.
