IDEAS FOR BEACH WHILE NEEDLE IS IN

I was wondering if anyone has gone to the beach when their needle was in & what you did for prevention if any. Reece never emerges his whole body in the water anyways but I was concerned with splashes. He would def have a tank top on & would beaware that he couldnt get his port area wet.

As far as sand goes, hes not one to roll around in it, just sits on a blanket & plays with the sand toys.

What would you recomend me putting over the area to stay as dry as possible?

He had a breakdown this afternoon...he hated his needle & wished he didnt have a port cuz he cant do ANYTHING etc. swim, trampoline, ride the 4 wheeler...all of the things his buds were doing today...poor guy, I felt so bad for him. He was sobbing so bad he could hardly talk

Thanks for any ideas that you send out

Alyssa doesn't have a port, but we did have some tegaderm that went over her picc line site, could you use that. Its kinda like one of those big square bandaids when you put gauze in the middle (so you don't pull the needle out when you take it off) and adhesive all the way around. Its not waterproof enough to swim, but a few minor splashes would fair just fine.

I hope he can enjoy the beach!!!

I was thinking the same thing..maybe tegaderm. I would also be concerned not only about the water and sand from the beach, but the salty air. We just returned from the beach the day before Andrew was admitted and I remember feeling salty from sitting outside. Love that salt air, but I can't imagine it would be good for the port. I think you are smart to keep it well covered while you're gone. Have a great time!

So you are saying put an extra dressing on it? he already has the clear bandage on it covering the needle. If I did that I would be afraid to take that off when I had to get to his line to hook him up that it would stick & wouldnt let me get it undone....make sense? Maybe Im not understanding, please forgive me
