I'm getting the vest!

Hi there,

I'm getting my vest! It should be here tomorrow or Friday and I'm so excited. And my insurance covered it all!!! (Whew)

I tried the vest at my last clinic appointment. I hadn't used it since I was at CF camp back about 15 years ago. Since I am allergic to all the good oral antibiotics, they figure my best defense against infection is good airway clearance. I have been using the Flutter since I was 13 years old and have not done anything else other than that.

I was really concerned about the cost of it and everything, but I figured that it was worth it for my health. I figure that my flutter-izing might not be doing everything I need it to do.

The RT at my clinic trained me on how to use it, but she basically told me to just use 3 different frequencies that increase and it didn't really matter which numbers I did.

So what frequencies do you use for the vest?

Also, what pressure setting (I think that's what it is) do you use for the vest inflation?

Thanks!

my pressure is 10, and then i set it to 10, 12, and 14 for my frequencies at ten min each. i think my docs recommended this to me years ago when i got my vest. hope that helps.

Congrats on baby boy #2, you can see I haven't been on here lately!

I have a Hill-Rom and I use frequencies of 8, 10, 12, 15,16 for a total of 30 mins. (8 for 10 mins, 10 for 10 mins and the higher ones for as long as I can stand them...my vest cycles thru them) All of those have a pressure of 8 (which RT says is good). I'd make sure you ask to be specific for your body.

If I'm doing my nebs & they aren't finished, I'll go an extra 5 mins on my vest. Just since I'm already hooked up.

Yeah for the vest, I love mine. Hope you love yours too!

DS does the same as semperfiohana 10, 12, 14 with a pressure of 10 (highest) for 30 minutes using the Hill Rom 104 vest system. We started out with those frequencies and a lower pressure for 15 minutes and have worked our way up to the increased pressure and time. We do this twice a day and I still do CPT in the mornings for 20 minutes before he wakes up.

Figure he's play video games while vesting, if the game is still going, he can keep vesting.
