Hey everybody. I'm in the PICC club too! Looks like there are a few of us oldies out there too!
I came home from the hosp last friday. get my dressing changed today. scheduled to stay on the Fortaz and Amikacin until I see the Doc on the 8th.
Having someone to share sure helps. Hang in there, BELACHE, hope you get some sleep and nurses who know how to run IV's without the alarms going off, Feel free to vent. I didnt have the pleasure of my computer while I was in. But time did blurr together after a while, and you loose track of time-which is a good thing. Feel better.

Hi Mare, last night was rough... they got an i.v. line in, gave me one dose before bed, i couldn't sleep well though, the bed was soo bumpy, i had a had time breathing because the room was so dry and i kept thinking about how the next day would go.....i got up was given another i.v.dose and new the line was pretty much done.. was given something to calm me down for the picc placement... they had a hard time with it (not a surprise to me, that's why i get so anxious) now i hope the rest is easy as pie ( and Pray ) praying that the whole picc line bunch and everyone else get well soon !! Hate those beds too!! You'd think hospitals would at least have decent beds. I'm hoping the rest of your stay goes smoothly.

Hey Joni, I hear ya with the anxiety! Ask for sleeping pills. I take 0.125 Halcyon(sp?) I finally got one nurse towards the end
of my last admission to agree to bring my sleeping pill at 9:30 so I could take it just after my last breathing treatment at 10pm. It usually would take a hour or so for the pill to hit and then I could sleep. I would wake up enough to stick out my arm for my IV and pass right out again. I had one bad night waiting for a CT scan that dopey radiology thought they were going to take me for at 11pm. then it was going to be sometime after midnight! I got myself in such a lather that I rang the nurse at 11:45 and said, no way I am doing this now! I need sleep and no aggravation! She agreed and didn't call radiology just to see when they would call to say they were coming. They called at 4am, can you believe it!!!! Turns out the Dr canceled it and didn't want it after all. As for beds. interestingly Hartford Hospital has the best beds ever, I was so amazed!!!! I didnt even get all sore from sitting and laying around for 6 days like usual.
Joni, if you are on Oxygen tell them to give you a bubbler to humidify the oxygen and / or saline nasal spray. One other admission- I had one hospital respiratory dept bring me a humidifier.
