i think i'll post this up here to hear what you guys think of this because my doctor pretty much has no idea what is wrong with me. so here it goes...

the only time i had pulmonary issues was when i was 18 and i was put on IVs. other than that i've had major gastric involvement. this past september i had hernia surgery for the second time. following that i developed a really awful cough which turned to a lung infection. i got really sick, flu like symptoms. so the doctor put me on IVs for 3 weeks. after like a week of being off IVs i would develop these symptoms again. this happened like 3 times with the flu like symptoms, then put on IVs. the 4th time i got put on IVs was this past february, i was having violent coughing attacks. so bad that i tore a ligament on my rib. i got put on IVs and i just got off of them about a week ago, and now the same symptoms are back with the violent coughing attacks. i went to the doctor yesterday and he put me back on IVs. but his explanation is "bad luck", and "everyone is coughing and sneezing, you've had a bad year". i'm sorry but i'm getting tired of hearing that. there HAS to be something wrong here.

he is sending me for a CT scan of my lungs and sinuses. i know from a past MRI that i have sinusitis. (information in which my mother told him months ago). any ideas of what could possibly be going on? being that i'm pretty much calling the shots w/ my own doctor, any tests or suggestions are absolutely appreciated!!

I am so sorry that you have been as ill as you have been! I can certainly understand why you are frustrated with all of this, I would be foaming at the mouth for answers too! What have your cultures shown? Maybe the antibiotics given to you aren't the right ones and need to be changed around. I will keep you in my prayers, Jenn

Ugh. So sorry!

That was what popped into my head too- what are your cultures showing? Are they checking them before and after each set of iv meds? Are they switching up the iv meds, or just throwing the same ones at it everytime? Are you able to give them a good sputum sample, or are they swabbing you? (swabbing isn't as accurate, apparently). I didn't have lung issues until after a gallbladder/adhesion surgery...stupid surgeries .

Keep pushing for answers! I hope you are feeling better soon!

Sinusitis could be a large culprit. Your sinuses just keep draining into your lungs...They clean your lungs, and they get dirty again due to your sinuses. Are you on any supplements? What is your diet like? Those are the two easiest ways to improve your health CF wise.
