Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to let you all know that I'm having a lobectomy on wednesday march 30th. The surgeon will be removing my right upper lobe due to chronic infection and abscess that never ever heals or gets better. Im not too worried about the actual procedure--just more worried about recovery and being able to cough and stuff so I dont get pneumonia after or anything.
Hopefully after surgery I will be alot less sick and able to make it longer between IV meds (right now its rediculous, I have been needing IVs every six weeks)

Jaime - Are you having VATS done to remove the lobe? I had it done in December. I didn' t have the whole lobe removed but it doesn't matter, it is still the same process. Good luck, any questions feel free to ask.

Anonymous - VATS is Video Assisted Thorascopic Surgery. It uses three or four incisions in between the ribs, one camera and the other instruments used to remove the part of the lung in question. They then place a chest tube in on of the holes. It is suppose to be less invasive than thoracotomy with quicker recovery time and less pain. Yeah, well, that is one of those hard things to understand when you are in pain anyway. Although I have to say when I came out of surgery the IV they had jammed in my hand hurt worse then anything.
