I'm in the hospital

Hannah...

I recently experienced a 12% drop and had no idea it was that low either, so I kind of know how it feels to be surprised by the numbers.

I dont' have MRSA, but usually when I'm in, I stay in my room a ton for my (and others') protection anyway... not quite the same cause I CAN go out, but just know you're in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.

Yes, I have MRSA...

Some people are fortunate to get rid of it if it's caught early enough, but most don't...I have had it for the past 4 years.

Patient's with MRSA tend to have more frequent infections thus ending in more frequent hospital trips. MRSA is multiple resistent staph aureus. It is HIGHLY resistent to antibitiotics making it harder to treat an infection. This is why people can't really get rid of it. Maintaining a good treatment routine is essential in preventing a hospitalizations. Once you're sick, you're sick. It's not considered as brutal is Cepacia, but you MUST stay on top of it similiar to Cepacia.

I rarely miss a treatment and have only been in the hospital twice in the past 4 years. Yes, my FEV1 has decreased but not at any dramatic level. However, there are other CF patients with MRSA that are not handling MRSA as well as me...

Feel free to ask any other questions.

BTW: I was told by my doctor that IT IS 3 FEET AIRBORNE. YOU MUST BE CAREFUL AND TRY TO AVOID CONTACT WITH OTHER CF'ERS OR PEOPLE WITH IMMUNO-DEFICIENCES LIKE CANCER, HIV, AND SO ON. THEY CAN GET IT FROM US. I LOST MY NURSING JOB IN A CANCER CLINIC BECAUSE OF IT!!!

OH MAN THE END OF SUMMER SUCKS

OK OK Lets look at the good part. You should be nice & refreshed & ready to kick butt in your Senior year then.

CF is sneaky. I think its so gradual that we dont notice many things. Its not like you went to bed one day with a 100% FEV & woke up with a 65%. I am pretty sure you would notice that....its the little each day that bites you in the butt!

I cultured MRSA one time. Was put on meds for it & havent cultured it since. Its been about 2 years I think & a few hospitalizations later.

HUGS!

Im so sorry your stuck in hospital. But i guess your in the right place for getting yourself better. My health as always been pretty stable(pfts around 60), but about 2 years ago my health really declined and my pfts were down to 15%!! ive never been so scared in all my life! It was so sudden. Since then ive managed to get my pfts to 30% by doing all the medication i can, and really looking after myself.unfortunately i no iwont be able to get any better than 30% now, but im really happy ive managed to double my lung function through hard work and determination!

Just stay posive and be patient!
