she has this sore in her mouth that looks really bad. she just told me about it today. she's gone to the dentist to get it checked out because she said she's been researching mouth cancer and she thinks there's a possiblity that it could be that. she doesn't smoke and never has. she doesn't use any form of tobacco, but i'm really scared for her. after she told me that, i looked it up on the net and the prognosis or mouth cancer is not too good. i'm sooo scared.

Don't freak out yet. I get ulcers in my mouth that hurt REALLY bad. They are brought on by alot of stress, that time of the month, etc. They are recurring, but not life threatening. Maybe that could be it?

This really isn't the best time for comments like that. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-disgusted.gif" border="0">

Sorry to hear about your mom. I don't know much about mouth cancer, so I looked it up, too and I agree it is frightening. Here's hoping it is just an ulcer... if it is cancer though, then here's hoping it has not spread yet.

thats the bad thing about the internet--self diagnosis--,get her to the doctor to be on the safe side.

UPDATE!!!
it's not cancer. the dentist said is was "absess" or something like that. the only way to get rid of the sore is to have her tooth pulled or a root canal. my mom is not the kind to worry about her health (she's probably been to the doc 3 times in my whole life) so that's why i was so worried about her. thanks for listening and caring (although i probably shouldn't have jumped the gun like that)

This post brought back a not too distant horror. My sister was diagnosed in July of 2005 with tongue cancer. She passed away Nov. 11, 2005 after an eight week stay in the hospital.

Sarah,

It can be so scarry when we think someone we love is sick. I am glad everything is okay. WHen things like this happen in my life it helps me to appreciate life all and what health I do have all the more.

Glad your mom's ok. It's typical of moms to not take themselves seriously when it comes to health problems. Tell her not to scare you like that again!--terri
