I had 3 piccs while preggo also. I was on Ceftazidime, Tobra and something else... I can't remember. I had to be hospitalized the whole time. It was nice in a way, because they let me hear the baby's heartbeat every day. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

The first time getting a PICC can be scary, but I bring my iPod into the outpatient surgery room and sing out loud to distract myself! It really isn't a big deal after you've had 1 done...there isn't too much pain, just expect a little pressure.

Piccs are great because your hands remain free and you don't have to be nervous about knocking it or laying on it. They also draw blood from it, so you don't have to be stuck again to get blood draws. They are easy to hide if you go out in public. The scarring is pretty minimal, especially now that they use a sticky pad to hold it in place, rather that the old stitches method!

I think you will be happy with the decision....if you're really nervous, bring in some tunes to the room to calm you down =)

Good luck!

You might want to look into/consider a mid line over a picc. but depending on what your exact concerns are there may be no difference between the two. It also depends on what they are putting you on, most IV antibiotics are just simply to hard an a parphiral(sp?) line. Most burn out a vain in like 2 days tops. And you really don't want to deal with finding 7 line spots in 14 days.

Blue,

What are your concerns about the PICC line specifically?
