I'm Scared

Definately go to a new doctor and insist the test be done. my mom knew i had cf before the doctors did because of my salty sweat, she even had doctors tell her she was just a paranoid mother. But she kept pushing until the did the test.

Now about being scared...I totally understand that, especially if you've been reading about CF. I get scared and upset if I read about it because I don't have a very severe case. But keep in mind that the disease is VERY different for everyone! If you're already 24 and haven't been diagnosed, you obviously don't have the severe lung problems that come with CF.

The pancreatic part of it isn't pleasant especially when you don't take enzymes. But it's definately manageable. It just takes getting used to. Have it checked out that's really the only thing that will put your mind at ease.

I can barely sleep because I am so scared....any thoughts?</end quote></div>

I was diagnosed at age 35. My son was 14. We have made a lot of dietary changes and lifestyle changes. He hasn't been on antibiotics in over 10 years and I haven't been on antibiotics in about 5 years. If you do get diagnosed when you are older, odds are good that it's a less severe form of it. And, in my opinion, once you know what the problem is, there is a lot you can do to take proper care of yourself and not just accept the answer that "people like you don't get well".

Good luck with this, whatever the answer turns out to be.

My doctors thought I was crazy too at your age. I insisted something was wrong and they kept telling me it was asthma, allergies, irritable bowel syndrome and even depression. I have an atypical (presents more mildly) form of cystic fibrosis, it was confirmed with a genetic test when I was 36. My symptoms did not fully appear until my early to mid 20's but when it started it was enough for me to realize something was wrong. I'm almost 38 years old and still doing great, I have a 14 month old daughter and I'm married. Try not to worry too much, even if you have CF you made it this far and there are treatments that help! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
