From what I have been told about CFRD this will not help us. As usually we are special diabetics and our insuling decreases through mucus build up and damage to the pancrease. I don't think this will help us.

But research using the most versatile kind of stem cells - those acquired from human embryos - is currently opposed by powerful critics, including President Bush.

"It will probably be five to eight years before we see a treatment being widely available," he said.

This would not not benefit CFRD....as other's stated, CF is not Type I, it's more of the mucus problem

but what's more interesting is that as it stands in the US right now, this does not even have much hope, due to our current political stance....so much for America having the best medical advancements

I was diagnosed with Type I from the very beginning and have always been dependant on insulin. If this will work for me, I will be exuberant with joy - the miracle I've been praying for. Personally speaking, if I could be cured of one or the other, I'd pick the diabetes, it's been the thorn in my side since I was 18.

Actually, in this instance, they are not harvesting stem cells from embryos. They are extracting stem cells from the patients blood....it's a relatively simple procedure. using the bodies own stem cells actually makes the stem cell debate obsolete.

yeah, but I can't see giving CFers drug that supress their immune system, talking about setting a CF person up for a disaster
