My doctor told me exercise is a great way to improve my numbers so I have been using the treadmill alot. Also swimming is a good way and of course making sure you get all that gunk out of the lungs helps too

I was at FEV1 50% in June and I go next month to my CF dr. Hopefully my numbers have increased slightly

The things that have improved my FEV1 are as follows:

Exercise - specifically cardio and weightlifiting.
Hypertonic Saline
Reducing my stress level. I am a graduate student studying biology but a few weeks ago I decided I needed a break from school for a while. Reduced stress + hypertonic saline resulted in a 10% increase in my PFTs/

I would also suggest positive imagery - believe that your PFTs are better. Think about them improving, imagine your lungs healing, etc. That kind of thing.

My fev1 just went up 6% from my last clinic visit, to 53% (best since 2002) and this is what has been going on in the last month for me:

*I started GSH supplements
(I also started magnesium supplements, but only for a few days before my appt. )

*I have continued my swimming 3 days a week

*I started using a mask when dusting and vacuuming (the big jobs )

*I had to do a round of 3% HTS for a couple of weeks, instead of my usual 7% when I couldn't get it (???)- am going to experiment with this this month...

*I started getting my blood sugars under control (recently diagnosed with CFRD)

*I also changed how I did my vest recently (check out Sakasuka's blog and "Warwick's letter" if you want more on that).

**Lots of people (here and here at home ) were praying for me for this clinic appointment!

Excercising has been a big one for me, in improving how I feel on a day to day basis, though until now, my fev1 had been stable after 2 years of swimming (also stable before starting swimming-but hey, let's hear it for stable! ).

Being compliant with my meds and treatments has helped tremendously in how I feel (and keeping me stable, I believe).

I also have been experimenting with my meds and my vest timing (within the doctor's parameters, of course )- I discovered that if I do my Xopenex, then my HTS, then 30 mins of my vest, and then my Pulmozyme, I get more coughed up. Of course, that is just my personal experience . It takes longer, but it works better for me.
