So, I was hoping to get my doctor to agree since I had a port now either not to admit me, or commit to a couple of days, but no such luck. His reasoning: I have resistant bugs, colistin can cause seizures and study shows patients who remain in the hospital see a higher increase in fev1. It seems to me for the first two reasons he is just wanting his way, as I have been on colistin numerous times before with no problems and he always eventually sends me home on it. And as for resistant bugs, In the past he's picked a combo he thinks will work and tries it. Why does it matter where I am? As for the study, has anyone heard of it? I am looking for it now.

I would say, we could start out in hosp. to make sure all is good , then continue IV's at home. Hope he goes for it.

Depends on the type of relationship you have with your doc. For me and my doc, sometimes she does similar type things-insisting on doing/trying something even though there doesn't appear a hard reason to do so. We've been together long enough though, that now I see she's usually acting on instinct, and 9/10 times she's right. Could there be just something nagging him, and he wants to keep an eye on you before you go?
If the port is fairly new to you, perhaps he just wants to watch you a bit longer than he normally would.
I know its hard, but its just a couple days, right? Not like a couple weeks or anything.

We always start out at the hospital and the second her dosages are right...straight home we go, because when you are at home you get more rest in your own bed without 20 people interrupting what little sleep you do get, you eat more because you have your comfort foods(not hospital food) in front of you, and your attitude is better because you around your own things in your own home, not to mention the germ factor!! Of course I see mamscarlett's point as well, but if there is not a good reason I would argue if you truly want to go home. Best of luck to you.
I always stay in the hospital the 2 full weeks (or about that) . I don't do well at home with all the drug times and rest that I must have when I am doing IVs (it zonks me) . I can't get good rest at home <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">
I always have trouble with my kidneys on IV drugs and my arm swells up. I would rather have issues in the hospital than to have to be re-admitted. Plus... my insurance doesn't provide any home health care. They would rather pay to just leave me in the hospital.
