Hey everyone,

Has anyone been induced? Can you tell me about your experience?

I am 1 cm dilated but they are going to induce me May 8th if I had not had the baby by then.

thanks!

My due date is May 22nd. May 8th will be my 38th week. They are inducing me because the baby is a healthy size and they want to make sure I can push him out to avoid a C-Section.

My doctor said I may have issues with a baby that is bigger then 8 lbs.... (I guess they measure you to find out) the baby was 6 lbs three weeks ago- so I am sure he is around 7 now.

How can they definitively say you can't push out an 8 lb. baby? I'm sure they've answered you this question. Are you satisified with their reason?

I am a believer in letting the baby come when (s)he is ready. The baby sets labor in motion chemically. The last thing to develop completely in a baby is the lungs and making a baby come before (s)he is ready can mean the lungs aren't completely developed. Induction has been used for years and has benefited many woman. If you have an epidural you'd probably need induction medicine (potosin) anyway. Research cytotech because if they induce and your body isn't really in labor they will likely have to use this anti-phychotic medicine that is regularly being used to rippen the cervix to efface your cervix. It is not FDA approved for this use but the OB's don't care. They won't tell you this.

I'm no doctor and I value the advice of the medical profession but I only view them as one piece of the puzzle. I'm not trying to be judgemental and I realize I'm not really who you asked to respond since I've never been induced but I have been learning a lot lately and thought I would share.

Here's a good process to use with any suggested intervention.

I am not sure I am big on inducing the labor either, that is why I am asking about it.
But I do trust my doctor and will listen to him. I believe they measure your cervix and guestimate how much baby you can handle. Also 38 weeks is considered full term. Everything I have read says the lungs are near fully developed and the baby would do good at this point.

I am researching inducing still- and hopefully the baby will come on his own, I would feel a lot better about that.

Okay one more question.... Did your doula/ OB recommend you get an epideral? In case of an emergency C-section??

Michelle,
First of all congrats!
My stepdaughter (who does NOT have CF) has been induced with both of her kids. I know that it makes your labor come on harder and faster. She had an epidural so I don't think it mattered much. But she delivered both kids vaginally.

BE careful though, her dr. estimated the last baby to be 8 pounds and he was 9lbs, 9 oz. when he was born.

I know this wasn't much help with your CF stuff but I thought I'd just add her situation.

Good luck with everything,
Kelli
