I am also a fan of letting it happen when it shoudl happen. That being said I was induced and I read all there was about it.

The methods of induction vary but it is best if they do something to ripen the cervix in conjunction with or prior to the start of pitocin. Just starting pitocin if the cervix is not ripe can greatly increas risk c-section.

There are cervical gels containing prostaglandins which ripen cervix, they can strip your membranes (highly unpleasant) which increases natural prostaglandin production, use cytotec(I also had this), and the oh natural way is to have sex as sperm contains prostaglandins.

best of luck to you

How can they definitively say you can't push out an 8 lb. baby? I'm sure they've answered you this question. Are you satisified with their reason?

I am a believer in letting the baby come when (s)he is ready. The baby sets labor in motion chemically. The last thing to develop completely in a baby is the lungs and making a baby come before (s)he is ready can mean the lungs aren't completely developed. Induction has been used for years and has benefited many woman. If you have an epidural you'd probably need induction medicine (potosin) anyway. Research cytotech because if they induce and your body isn't really in labor they will likely have to use this anti-phychotic medicine that is regularly being used to rippen the cervix to efface your cervix. It is not FDA approved for this use but the OB's don't care. They won't tell you this.

I'm no doctor and I value the advice of the medical profession but I only view them as one piece of the puzzle. I'm not trying to be judgemental and I realize I'm not really who you asked to respond since I've never been induced but I have been learning a lot lately and thought I would share.

Here's a good process to use with any suggested intervention.

BRAIN

Benefit?

Risk?

Alternatives?

Your intuition?

N...hmm not remembering this one. Maybe someone else knows this technique?</end quote></div>

I agree with Lou Lou. Intuition and educating yourself are very important. Unless you have gestational diabetes or something, <b>for the most part</b> your body is not going to grow a baby that it cannot deliver. Trust your body to know what is best. CF should not impact whether ot not you can deliver a bigger baby.

I have found in talking with other moms here that a lot of OBs just don't have very much experience with CF moms (understandably) and so they base everything on worse case scenarios. I think most moms here will tell you they had easy and uncomplicated deliveries - at least with regards to their CF. I am glad you trust your doctor, but don't let them scare you into bringing this baby into ther world before it is done cooking!

Also, just an aside, my friend just gave birth (vaginally) to a 10lb 11ox baby - she is my hero and my proof that our bodies know what they can handle!

My due date is May 22nd. May 8th will be my 38th week. They are inducing me because the baby is a healthy size and they want to make sure I can push him out to avoid a C-Section.

My doctor said I may have issues with a baby that is bigger then 8 lbs.... (I guess they measure you to find out) the baby was 6 lbs three weeks ago- so I am sure he is around 7 now.</end quote></div>

My ultrasound showed that my DD was a little over 5 lbs at - let's see, 32 or 33 weeks, and she was born at 34 weeks (plus a few days) at 4 lbs, 6 oz. so it's not an exact science with weight and ultrasound <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> . I'd ask why they think that, too- you're entitled to know <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> . And CONGRATS! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Michelle, Good luck with the questions. Please keep us posted - - I'm hugely interested. If you wouldn't mind sharing your questions and the doctors answers that would be great too. Knowledge is power! Best of luck.
