infant lung function testing

I was wondering how drs know what a baby's lung function is like beside using a stethascope. What tests are done to tell if there is any mucous build-up. Has anyone's baby had chest x-rays done?

I find that my cf clinic is really proactive. I feel like if I don't ask the questions, I never get any answers. Most of the time I don't know what questions to ask. It keeps me up at night! Is there tests that my son should have done to ensure he doesn't need more treatments?

Jaxon has albuterol neb in am & cpt twice daily for 20 min.

My daughter has had x-rays. I would say if there is no cough, I would not be too worried. Ashlee (my 5 year old) never started breathing treatments til age 2. Jordin (my 10 month old) started right off the bat due to a nasty cough. X-rays and bronchoscopy done. She gets them yearly now.

I would think if there are no symptoms causing you to think he needs more treatment, he probably doesn't need more right now. They may do a yearly x-ray though...just to see his baseline?

My son is almost 8 months old. He has had chest xrays and throat cultures. That's about all they can do. They can order a chest CT if necessary, but that is not likely.

We had infant pfts done when my daugther was 1 yr old. They do it by putting the baby to sleep (they give some sort of syrup) and then using a sort of machine connected to a computer to compress the chest and get the measurements. We were about to get them done this year but my dd would not fall asleep.

We get chest x rays regularly (around every 3 months).
