Infant PFT

Our CF clinic just got the machine to do the infant pft like a year ago since they started doing the newborn screening they are having more and more infants come in. They like to know the baseline of their lung function so that they can better treat him if he ever does get sick and his pft's go down they'll know what it's sup. to be. They said they'll do one every 6months. The guy who invented the machine was there while Tyler was getting the test done. He was showing them how to use the machine and all that. They said not every clinic does it or is licensed to do it. I think it's a great idea to have it done early on though! He did great with it!

They did use the chloral hydrate, he was pretty loopy the rest of the day..was soo cute though! He kept laughing and when he was trying to crawl he would topple over and laugh!

My dd had infant pfts done when she was 1 yr old. Our hospital does them routinely as long as they can make them fall asleep (which was not the case for my dd this year). She did not have any strange reaction to it that i can remember.

Graycie had one around 6 mo's ago and she is scheduled to have another PFT at the end of May. My daughter got to go into the room with her during the test and watch. Of course Graycie was completely out during the test and seemed fine afterwards. Maybe alittle sleepy but no other side effects. I think the test affected my daughter alot more then it did Graycie. She is not looking forward to it again next month but it does give the drs valuable information in treating Graycie.

Ashlee is 5 and practiced once during her hospital admit, but has not tried again since. Maybe I should push for more practice so she can do them more frequently. Is this something they should do at every visit in the older age? Hers were over 100%, but it was also her first time doing it and could have been incorrect. She has always been quite healthy though, so I wouldn't expect a decline for her. More curious of Jordin's.
