Infants w/ CF born now have a great chance at a long life :-)

Working on a paper about CF and transition for my Master's degree, I stumbled on this quote (from Hewer and Tyrell) that I thought interesting about infants born recently with CF having a mean survival of greater than 50 years. That sounds so much better than "median survival of 37". And that doesn't even take into consideration the new drug pipeline including the Vertex drugs. This gives me hope... I hope it does you, too.

"There is convincing evidence in favour of improving survival for patients with CF, despite the fact that there is as yet no definitive treatment to cure the defect at a cellular level. This improved survival is a reflection in part of the improving and pro-active care provided during childhood. Continuous improvements in health and survival suggest that mean survival of recently born infants may be greater than 50 years."
