Ok I have had my port since feb. 06. I have had it accessed once, which was just last month. The scar looks infected, its really sore to touch and red, and looks rather nasty. Have any of you had infected ports, what should i do? Go to ER? I have called my clinic but they haven't callled back yet. Any suggestions?

I haven't had one before but if you think that it's infected go get it checked before it gets worse...

Let us know how it goes...

if its just the scar thats the problem i say you might have keloids. they hurt like hell and turn bright red. see your doc anyway because those dont go away by themselves!

hi - I had my port removed in march this year due to it being infected, with the infection came rediculously high temperatures, hot and cold flushes and my blood counts were through the roof. It sounds to me like the scar might be causing more of a problem rather than infection within the line, (like Kybert said keyloid scarring can cause that appearance) but might be a good idea to get it checked out incase. Hope it's all ok <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

welp I decided to go to the ER to get it checked out. Well now I am sitting in the hospital. I was admitted. I had my port removed this morning. Apparently what happened was that the actual port broke through my skin. Or like my skin ripped apart and my port was coming out. So thats how it got infected. So thats the update for now!

ooo ouchie! was the skin too thin over yours? i know erosion can be a problem if there isnt enough skin and fat or if the port is too big. i hope it all gets sorted out.
