Information on CF

Read your story about your 8 year old. My 20 month old son has also just recently been diagnosed with asthma. However I am concerned that it may be CF as he does have other symptoms that don't relate to just asthma. Could you please let me know why you think that your childs cough is not asthma related. My son has had a cough since about 3 weeks of age. He has also suffered from constant chest infections, croup and was admitted to hospital with RSV. He has been on constant doses of steriods for the croup, but it doesn't seem to help. Is your childs cough wet or dry. Does she also have a problem with malabsorption.

Look forward to your response.

<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0"> I HAVE JUST READ YOUR ARTICLE AND I WONDER PERIODICALLY ABOUT MY FOUR YEAR OLD FOR WHOM HEALTH HAS BEEN FAR FROM BRILLIANT SINCE SHE WAS BORN. SHE HAS HAD A SWEAT TEST FOR CF WHICH CAME BACK NEGATIVE BUT OUR CONSULTANT CHANGED SOON AFTER. REFERRED TO ANOTHER DR WHO DID NOT HAVE MUCH IDEA ABOUT HER HOSPITAL NOTES WHICH FOR A FOUR YEAR OLD ARE QUITE THICK!! AND HE SUGGESTED ANOTHER CF TEST WHEN I TOLD HIM SHE HAD ALREADY HAD THE TEST HE LOOKED SOMEWHAT PERPLEXED. SHE HAS BEEN TREATED FOR ACUTE ASTHMA FOR ABOUT THREE AND A HALF YEARS AND BEEN ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL SEVERAL TIMES FOR NEBULISERS, OXYGEN ETC. CURRENTLY SHE IS ON SINGULAIR AND FLIXOTIDE AND SOLBUTAMOL AS THE RELIEVER. SHE HAS RECENTLY RECOVERED FROM YET ANOTHER THROAT INFECTION WITH FAIRLY STRONG ANTIBIOTICS BUT NEVER REALLY GOES THAT LONG UNTIL INFECTION STRIKES AGAIN. SHE HAS HAD RECURRENT CHEST INFECTIONS AND BEEN ADMITTED TO THE HDU WHERE WE NARROWLLY ESCAPED VENTILATING HER. HER VITAL SIGNS WERE PRETTY POOR. SHE GENERALLY EATS LIKE A GROWN MAN WHEN WELL PUT HAS TAKEN A LONG TIME TO HAVE STEADY WEIGHT GAIN. I READ AN ARTICLE RECENTLY THAT SAID YOU CAN HAVE SEVERAL NEGATIVE SWEAT TESTS FOR CF DO YOU KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE. SHE IS UNDER A RESPIRATORY SPECIALIST AND A CONSULTANT PEADIATRICIAN AT OUR LOCAL HOSPITAL. SHE HAS A RAISED IgE LEVEL AND I WANT A FURTHER ALLERGY TEST DOING BUT IN THE MEANTIME WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO OFFER ANY HELP OR ADVICE?? SHE DOES HAVE A NUMBER OF SYMPTOMS OF CF AND IT FEELS LIKE SHE ALWAYS HAS HOWEVER HAVING HAD THREE BOUTS OF ASTHMA/INFECTION /POOR AIR ENTRY LEVELS ON ONE OF HER LUNGS IN THE LAST SIX WEEKS, I AM DUE AT THE HOSPITAL ON THE 12TH JAN AND WOULD LIKE TO FINALLY GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS. UNDER DR FROM SIX WEEKS OLD. REGARDS CATHY A NOW VERY WEARY MOTHER WHO JUST WANTS HER DAUGHTER TO FEEL BETTER FOR LONGER. NOT AT ALL NEUROTIC BUT HAVING JUST HAD A VERY WORRYING CHRISTMAS I WOULD LIKE SOME ANSWERS. THANK YOU.

Hey, I don't want anyone to find me offensive, but I'm from a local high school in Texas and I would like some information on Cystic Fibrosis for a project in Biology! Can anyone help me? Please, I'm interested in becoming a doctor and trying to find a cure for genetic disorders! I just have a couple of questions! Teh genetic change the causes Cystic Fibrosis, is it a point mutation, chromosomal mutation, extra chromosome, or missing chromosome? How can teh environment make the disease worse? Does this disease circulate within cultural groups or ethnic groups? What treatment is there for Cystic Fibrosis and how does it work? What is the idividual's health like after inheriting the disease? Where can you find support groups (besides this one) that deal with medical questions and emotional questions? Please reply back to this! If you have to please e-mail me at tagkid7@yahoo.com!
