I can't take any quinilones because of what levaquin did to me. it would have to be a dire situation where i am in the hospital for me to take them.

Day 3 has me feeling like I got the placebo.. No horrible taste and no changes in sputum. I remember when I did the cayston study I was feeling no changes and I ended up having a placebo. I never responded to oral levaquin either so maybe levaquin just doesn't like me. Here goes 3 months without any antibiotics -.-

Day 3 has me feeling like I got the placebo.. No horrible taste and no changes in sputum. I remember when I did the cayston study I was feeling no changes and I ended up having a placebo. I never responded to oral levaquin either so maybe levaquin just doesn't like me. Here goes 3 months without any antibiotics -.-

I think I got the medication. Not just because of the taste either.

I unenrolled after one day. It wasn't the taste, it was the effects. My lung function dropped a bit after 30 minutes. I got headaches, and did not feel well. I know that could be "normal" and it should recover but...

I'd recommend to anyone who does not feel comfortable DO NOT JOIN THIS STUDY!

If you NEED your antibiotics and you are worried about getting a placebo, unenroll and start taking your regular antibiotics.

I studied biochem, I want to do CF research some day, and I work for a biotech company right now. I'm as pro-science as anyone. And I understand greatly that people with CF need to take this drug to test it. However, there will be many that respond well to it and many that don't. Do not sacrifice yourself. It's not ignoble to unenroll. Others will test fine with it if you don't; it may be dangerous after all. Things can get to phase 3 and still cause health affects. Please consider your personal health first.

Unfortunately, almost ALL drugs have some side effects! Fortunately, the side effects vary and in many instances, large percentages of the population are only marginally affected, or show no adverse affects at all.

Leviquin and Cipro are both "Quinolones". These have been shown to increase the risk of nerve injuries and tendon ruptures. However, many people have been taking these drugs for years without suffering these effects. In addition, the inhaled version of these drugs enters the blood stream in much lower concentrations than oral or IV versions do. As such, the side effects should be greatly reduced or non existent.

That said, IV Tobramycin can cause hearing problems in some small percentage of people. It did with me. TOBI, the inhaled version is not supposed to enter the bloodstream. Unfortunately, after a few years it did with me and I had to stop using it because it also affected my hearing. Fortunately thank G-d, Cayston came along and I have been using it successfully for the past four years.

My non-medical advice is to take you CF center's advice about which drugs to "try". Also, you should be aware of the possible side effects of all the drugs you take, and inform you doctor if you believe you are experiencing any.

I find the web to be invaluable for learning about drug side effects. It was only from the web that I learned that TOBI could cause hearing problems, since at the time, this was very seldom reported.

PS: I am looking forward to having inhaled Leviquin as a future backup to Cayston.

After a week and a half I took myself off it. Showed no signs of improvement and even felt like I was getting worse. If I didn't get the placebo I'll be surprised because I definitely would have felt at least a little better if it was the medication.

I dont seem to find results from phase 2 anywhere. The study was supposed to have ended 2 months ago! I wonder how is it going.

I'd heard of inhaled Cipro studies. Inhaled Levo is new to me. I'd love for any quinolone antibiotic to be avail for inhalation.
