Insurance denied coverage again

Insurance has denied my doctor's appeal for coverage of an insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor, again.

Has anyone had luck getting their "health" insurance to cover a pump? How did you do it?

Feeling very hopeless and helpless right now.

I ran across this a while ago, but I have no idea how well it works. Every state has an insurance commissioner in charge of overseeing the insurance companies. Perhaps if your doctor wrote a note to your state insurance commissioner it might help? It may be worth a try, anyway. I got the information from this site: http://cappskids.org/TipsForDealingWithInsurance.htm

Good luck!

Anyone know of research going on regarding insulin pumps and CFRD? Know of any other documentation about how insulin pumps are helpful for people with CFRD?

I need help building a case towards getting a pump, against my insurance company. They basically dismissed my doctor's informative letter with the last appeal.

I had a normal c-peptide test so the insurance doesn't think I need the extra insulin to cover meals and such. They think that CFRD is more like Type 2 diabetes, which generally does not need bolus insulin. Despite my A1C being 9.0%.

I am up to 6-7 shots a day, I can't handle it anymore. I hate needles!

I have one last chance at an appeal. I need all the help I can get!
Thank you!!
(sorry if my English isn't perfect, I am quite frustrated right now)

I unfortunately di dnot have a problem getting my insurance to cover my insulin pump but I had also been taking insulin for about 8 years and was giving myself about 8-9 shots per day at the time I asked for the insulin pump.

I do not know how long you have been diagnosed diabetic and using insulin but that may have something to do with it.

I am sorry you are having such a hard time I wish I knew something to help you out. Have you tried calling the insurance company to find out WHY exactly they are denying coverage of the pump?

It may help to do that if you have not already. In the information they give you - you and your doc may be able to figure something out that will get them to cover the pump for you.
