Insurance denied coverage again

Are you Aspen A.? If so, I spent time with you at Denver Children's when we were younger (this is Melanie C.) ... I have been on a pump for the last three years. It was tough getting insurance to approve it. One definite thing that assured and sped along my pump approval with my insurance was that I didn't have c. peptides in my blood and my A1C was low(er) and my blood sugars seemed to be under good control. Are you still in CO? Do you go to BDC? They should have some better tips for you if so.

Good luck, good to know you are well! PM me sometime if you get the chance (if you are who I think you are!)

Aspen, can you list the denial reasons they gave you? Did they reference a certain code (something you'd find in your beneficiary manual or on their website). I am pretty good with these insurance things and would be happy to help you.

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the advice and support. Hi Melanie!!! Yes it is me! I am so happy to see you on here! I'll shoot you a PM soon.

First, I have not received the letter of denial in my hands yet. It should be sitting in my mailbox as I type. I'll let you know the details as soon as I read them.

I have found out that my insurance, GreatWest Healthcare is notorious for denying coverage for insulin pumps. Good to know. Unfortunately I can not switch my insurance policy, as it is the only one offered by my employer. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

I wish employers would think about their insurance companies a little more when they make decisions.. I would think an Insulin Pump would be something that is pretty common? Am I wrong? I figured a lot folks had those? I'm so sorry that you are having to go through this. That really sucks!
