Irritated nostrils from HTS

The outside of my daughter nostrils gets irritated from the HTS 7%. we use a mask when we do nebs for her sinuses. She had a little scab right on the skin outside her nostril, looked ouchy. So I gave her nose a break and we used the mouthpiece for a few days while doing nebs. looked all healed up after that so I put her back on the mask and now she has an irritated area in a different spot on the skin right outside her nostril. So I plan on switching her back to the mouthpiece again. Anyone have this problem? I like the HTS by mask, she hasn't had a sinus infection since we started doing it this way. What do you all think? Maybe do the HTS by masks every other day? Suggestions, welcome.

Well, I don't know if this will help or not, but when I have a cold, and my nose gets like that, I put Chapstick (the original, with the black label) around my nose. When I do it at night when it's already chapped, it is usually better by morning. Then I do it during the day to protect the skin on and around my nose from all the blowing and wiping, etc. Maybe that would do the trick? Or something similar?

Is switching to 3% an option? Maybe it wouldn't be as irritating? (just a thought <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> )

Thanks for your reply. The chapstick sounds like a good idea. Maggie seems to tolerate the 7% otherwise. She may cough once or twice while doing the 7% (unless she has an infection then she's coughing away while doing it) But it did make me think if the saline is irritating her little skin near her nose, could it be doing irritation to her lungs? She goes to clinic in Sept, so I will definately mention it.
