Our family is being transferred to San Antonio next month and I am nervous about my son's care. He is in the hospital for two weeks and out for two to three weeks so it is important that we have a hospital with a great staff. We currently go to Children's Medical Center of Dallas and we love it. They have a great child life team, music therapy, an art teacher, and AJ is allowed out of his room with a mask. He is very comfortable with the nursing staff which is great because I have to go home at night with my daughter. My biggest fear with a hospital would be doctors who aren't open to trying new things and a hospital where AJ could not come out of his room (as he spend half of his life in there). Any info on San Antonio would be great!

Hi... My girls go to Christus Santa Rosa in San Antonio. We love it. We live in Midland which is roughly a 5 1/2 hour drive from San Antonio but it is worth it. We had switched to Fort Worth (Cook Children's) for a while because it is a little bit closer but we ended up going back to San Antonio. We felt much more comfortable there.

I've spent plenty of nights at Christus Santa Rosa and they are great to work with. They have the best child life specialists ever. As far as staying in the room, we never had to. My daughter and I roamed the hospital constantly as long as she was wearing a mask. They are very good about keeping CF'ers apart. The CF'ers have to take turns going into the activity room... that was comforting to me.

If you have any specific questions, let me know... You can call the clinic ahead of time and let them know you will be moving to the area... The two nurses are Melanie and Michelle. Their phone # is 210-704-2338. You will more than likely get a voicemail but they are good about calling you back. Oh, and the dr is Dr. Donna Willie-Courand. She is great. It's a relatively small clinic so I think you get more personal care than you do at the larger clinics... I like that too.

Good Luck!

I agree with Rennee. I live in San Antonio, and supposedly there is also a clinic at Methodist hospital, but not only do I not think very highly of the facility, but I'm none too fond of the Doc either. Santa Rosa Children's is the best! My son has been treated there since he was an infant.

That makes me feel a little better about the move. Renee, just so you know, if you live a lot closer to Children's Medical Center of Dallas it is also fabulous!!! We love it so much more than the hospital we went to in Idaho. Johanna is the child life specialist there and she is like a big sister to my son. She is WONDERFUL!!!!!!!
