If your sputum is green does it mean its always an infection no matter what? Please I'm confussed she is not showing any symptoms except that, she had quite a bit of staph (a level 3 plus) before christmas, and she was on antibiotics for it,for two weeks. They only treat her with antibiotics if any of the pseudo aerugonosa, staph shows up. Please let me know

It's not always a sure sign. Not for me anyway. It is definetly a precursor and I watch close to see how thick it's getting. I also watch out for a taste in my mouth like metal. If you are speaking for a child, she may not know if there is a taste or be able to tell you. I also find that I could up green crap from deep in my lungs -after- an infection and it's clean for bugs, but still Nasty looking.

If it isn't expensive or a hastle, have it cultured. It's better to know if it is or isn't infected.

Best wishes.

I usually notice if i have an infection when my sputum changes colour. When im well ,it is light green, but if i have an infection, it gets alot darker, thicker and i notice there is more of it.
I mean if your used to seeing that colour of sputum, and it hasnt changed recently,it doesnt mean to say theres infection. well thats what i think anyway

I think it all depends on how much you see. You mention you have no symptoms so that is a good sign. Sometimes after an infection is over, you might bring up darker colored mucus. I think this is good because you are clearing mucus that might have been sitting in a spot of your lungs.

Listen to your doctors always

For myself personally, i know i have an infection if it's dark green in colour but also is accompanied by pain when i cough it up. It's a different pain than the pain u can sometimes get coughing just regularly. I hope that helps a little bit and i hope Tina is ok!!
