Is it okay to give away my extra Ultrase MT20?

I just had to ask.
My step-son has come to live with us for good. I knew he was coming and I refilled his prescription for MT20 and then once he got here we learned he has changed to a different enzyme. So now we have two bottles/ 1000 capsules unopened factory sealed. I just hate to throw them out, I hate throwing anything out that someone could probably use.
Thought I would run it by you guys.

If no one else wants them or needs them, I recently found out that my pancrease enzymes were being discontinued so now I have to find a new one. I would like to try Ultrase (with doc's permission, of course), and that would be a great way to try them without having to purchase them until I know if/how they work. Reply to this message if you'd like, and I will send you my contact info.

Thanks,
Sonia

You aren't "suppose to" but I can't tell you how many times I've done this.... it's silly the way our rules and regulations are set up. Saftey, of course I understand, but letting a good med go to waste. I would say that if two people feel comfortable with it (and especially if the bottles are unopened) then GO FOR IT!!!!

Jen, by the way, how are you and how's andrew? He looks HUGE!!!

I fully support people with excess meds giving meds to people who need them... that being said, please understand that technically its a federal offense to give prescription drugs to any individual other than the one for whom it was prescribed.

Just wanted to let you know what you're getting into... You may not want to use the postal system for this.

Just a quick note to let you know tht you do NOT want to go from pancrease to ultrase mt20s...they are much much stronger. Unless like one capsule is equal to how ever many you were taking. But one ultrase mt20 is equal to what is it 2 or more pancrease tablets i think. might be just two. Anyway yes talk to your doctor see what he says to try.

as for giving away the ultrase besides that its unlawful technically, you can give them away..i guess in secret or to another party that can use them and wont turn you in.

Well, you could still contact me and we can discuss your supply, even if I don't take 'em.

Anyway, I do take about 5-6 pancrease with meals, so maybe just taking fewer ultrase would work? Either way, I would ask my pharmacist and doc first.... Not that I'm going to take them....

Hey, ya'll.
So, I was thinking about the legalities of this, and this came to mind...

If you DO have an Rx for the med that you're getting from someone, wouldn't that still be ok? As long as the person wasn't acting as a pharmacy and making a profit. I would think if you HAVE an Rx for the med that you're getting, it shouldn't matter how you get it. You're not getting or using the med without an Rx.

A friend of mine knew a guy who also had CF. He was relatively mild though, and all he did really was take enzymes. He lost his job and ran out of health insurance, and had zero enzymes. I had some older ones I had laying around, so I gave them to him. I figured the poor guy needed pills bad, I had some old ones (though would still work), so why not give him the pills?

Sonia,

technically....even with the prescription if Jen "gave" you the meds it would be dispensing without a license. The only 2 people that are allowed to "dispense" medications for home use are doctors and pharmacies. I couldn't imagine anyone being prosecuted for a situation like this but you never know? Jen if you did decide to send you the meds it would be best to do it "privately"

Jen,

You can give the medicine to a local free clinic or ask your doctor if they need it; Then they can give it to a needy family.

have a nice day.
