Hey all!
So I have been to the doctor recently for another cold that turned into bronchitis, and they think it ended up turning into pnemonia. They also said they think I may have some alleriges and/or asthma. My question is do you think it would be worthwhile to get tested for CF?
Here's some background..
Since I was little I would get colds that always turned into at least 3 week long mucus producing coughs. It has continually gotten worse as I have gotten older, but I have always seemed to have a cough that doesn't always produce mucus, but sometimes does. I usually get these colds that start out not too bad and I think they are going to go away, and then they start to turn into bronchitis. At least 2-3 times a year I end up having to go to the doctor multiple times because they tell me it should go away in a few days, and it just gets worse, so I go in, and they finally tell me I have bronchitis or pnemonia and give me stuff for that. The meds they give me seem to help, but as soon as I am off them the cough continues to linger and I still produce mucus. The longest ammount of time I remember having really bad coughs that produced mucus was about 7-8 months. The doctor said he thought I just kept getting colds that would turn into bronchitis.
Also, since I was about 12, I was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome. Basically I have constipation, and then sometimes diarhea Since I was little, I have always had stamach aches and pains in my bowels. I have been to the ER multiple times for these pains along with my chest cavity hurting. Sometimes my back feels like there is a knife being pushed through it when I breath.
I told my doctor that I seem to cough pretty regularly and that sometimes it produces mucus, but not all the time. She thinks that I am either allergic to something or have asthma or both. I also told her about my history of colds turning into bronchitis and IBS, and my chest cavity hurting a lot. She didn't really have anything to say to that. I get the feeling that she thinks I am making it up or that it is all in my head.
Sorry, this has gotten so long! So anyway, I had someone tell me that it is possible that I could have a mild form of CF and that I should get tested. I do want help with my health and knowing what I can do to get better, but I don't want to go get all these tests done unless there is a probability that they could give positive results. I am 24 years old, and have had these previously stated problems since I was a kid, but CF has never been brought up. Do you think it would be worth it to get tested or that I have any of the symptoms that would point to me having it? Any and all insight is appreciated!!
Enjoy! Ü
