Is there a good reason why I shouldn't

Alyssa can pull the hoses right off the vest and when she's had enough, or wants to go farther than the hoses allow, she just pops them off. And some days she just wiggles so much, they fall out.

I just want to duct tape the hoses to the vest part and let the part that connects to the compressor stay free. Do you think its a safety thing? I mean, I know that the respirtech machine has the clamps and that Hill-Rom hasn't addded clamps to their design for a reason, but what is that reason???

Also do you think it would be problematic considering we don't own the Vest yet? I only think our insurance company has paid 4 or 5 monthly payments (of around $1,000 I beleive), so should I wait until its all paid off before mutilating it? LOL.

I don't see why it would be a problem. Might be worth a try. I know how problematic the tubes disconnecting can be. I wouldn't do it personally, just because it's easier to store if I can completely dismantle the thing.

To keep in mind - we have the Hill Rom vest- and they replace the vest and tubes for free whenever you need it. Just a simple phone call - no questions asked. We've replace our tubes NUMEROUS times (tearing has been an issue in the past - in fact, I alway keep a couple on spare - so you might consider calling and just telling them your tubes ripped so that they will send you some for backup). We've replaced the vest couple of times too b/c they simply become worn out. My point being, the vest and tubes are pretty disposable so duct taping them together wouldn't hurt anything. The main care needs to be placed on the machine.

I was wondering something similar tonight as Emily kept popping off the hose to "dry my hair" while she vested tonight!!!! Actually I was contemplating duct taping HER because she wouldn't stay still enought to keep the nebulizer mask on her face, but, whatever.
I asked my engineer husband what he thought of your idea from a safety, air pressure point of view...he sees nothing wrong with it except that it will be messy to clean up when you do have to replace a hose. Which you will, sooner or later. We're on our 4th set, I think. I say, try it, and stock up on GooGone to remove the adhesive when the time comes. Let me know h ow it works out. THey make fun colored duct tape now (neon pink and green, red, blue...) maybe a little personalization is in order!
