Is there ANY chance my insurance will cover it???

my husband and I are both carriers of CF and we found out during our pregnancy with our son. He is luckily just a carrier as well. Well, now we are really thinking about more children, and we want to do IVF with PGD. But I called today for our initial consultation and she informed me that even though we have coverage through our insurance, they most likely won't cover any of it because I can actually get pregnant on my own. Ugh!!!
why does it have to be so complicated with insurance?
Does anyone have experience with getting it covered anyway?
Thanks for any advice you may have

You can try writing a letter to your insurance company and explain the cost of caring for a person with CF vs. the cost of IVF/PGD. I have been searching for help and there is none out there for couples in our situation from what I can see.

I know of two people who use to frequent this site who were carriers of CF and did IVF with PGD to avoid a CF baby. They both did get their ins. companies to cover it. I believe it took both of them 2-3 appeals to finally get it approved.

What state do you live in? do you know if your state mandates ins. coverage for infertitily?

We have a three year old with CF, we had no idea we were carriers at the time. For our second child, we chose the IVF/PGD route. At first we were told IVF would not be covered b/c I can get pregnant. BUT somehow at the new IVF center, it got approved! I forget how it all worked but the IVF clinic worked it out. We also had letters written for PGD appeals but that was still not ceovered. But the bulk of the cost if the IVF and medications. So we did three rounds of IVF, all covered and paid out of pocket for PGD. Our second son Gavin was born healthy and just turned 1.

Best of luck, I hope it works out for you. Question alot of IVF centers and they should get you some answers.
We had Blue Cross Blue Shield.
