Is there any financial support for parents of CF patients?

My sister-in-law is 25 and has CF, though right now her biggest battle is with her liver...I don't think it's functioning at all, and she's been hospitalized a lot lately (high ammonia levels, a coma, a TIPS procedure for a stent). My mother-in-law and father-in-law are really starting to hurt financially, and although we help as much as we can, we can't do as much as we'd like. My father-in-law is currently working, but he was off all last week, and that's without pay. My mother-in-law has been off without pay even more. The medical costs aren't the problem, it's the travel...gas, food, lodging, and loss of income while off work.

Are there programs or foundations that help with this sort of problem? I haven't contacted the CFF, because I'm not sure if they can help at all. I'm new to all of this...my husband and I have been together 13 years, and I haven't been involved much during that time, but I just can't sit back and watch them struggle any more. <img src="">

She may be able to qualify for SSI and or Medicare or possibly even disability. But as far as her parents, she is no longer a child so there is help for her but not them, as far as I know.

You could contact the local SSI office and they maybe able to direct you or you could check with a hospital social worker who would be able to direct you to the appropriate places and would know what help if any is available and what the family might be able to qualify for.
