10th day of IV's and I'm not feeling much better.
This hasn't happened before.
did this happen to anyone else? have you ever switched antbx after completing a 2wk course?

Could be you need to do longer than just two weeks or switch meds. When I was still pretty healthy it wasn't uncommon to do three weeks sometimes. Now that I'm sicker and pfts are crappy it's not uncommon to do 4 weeks. I always thought that they only do two weeks at a time and the first time I had to do more than that I freaked out, but it's not that big a deal as long as it works and you feel better.

Emily just had her first round of IV's and needed a 3rd week. She was nowhere near her baseline at 2wks and pft's were still down as well. She's been done with the 3wk course for a few days now and is much improved compared to where she was when she started but she's still not what she should be.

Did they do a culture and sensitivity, or just put you on a broad spectrum based on what you previously cultured?

My questions are the same as Jonathan's. Are these IVs just "standard" abx that you're usually on when on IVs? I got to a point one time where the normal IVs that did the trick weren't making me better. A longer, more specific culture revealed a new bug that was resistant to all but one of these "normal" abx. Good luck and I hope you get to feeling better!

THX!
my last culture showed no new bugs.  Same antbx that I'm usually on for 'tune ups'. This time not working.
I wonder if 3 weeks would be more beneficial (usually do 2 weeks). Or if another drug is the right answer.
Thank you so much for reading and responding.

Andrew always does three weeks on ivs.  His doc doesn't even recheck him until three weeks are up.
